"Drie staande figuren" (Three Standing Figures), a 1921-1922 charcoal drawing by Dutch artist Isaac Israels, is a gestural sketch of three figures. The central figure, rendered in more detail, is standing and slightly turned to the right. The figure on the left is sketched in a more abstract manner, and the figure on the right is barely defined, giving the impression of a fleeting observation. This work, now housed in the Rijksmuseum, reflects Israels' interest in capturing movement and atmosphere through simplified lines.
