Henry William Bunbury's 1770 etching "Happy Peasant and Monk" depicts two figures walking side-by-side. The peasant, dressed in a long coat and large shoes, appears to be carrying a large object under his arm, while the monk, wearing a robe and rosary, smiles contentedly. Bunbury was a noted English caricaturist and his work often satirized contemporary society. This etching, created through a process of transferring an inked design from a prepared metal plate to paper, is a fine example of his signature humor and social commentary.
