Eckart Hahn made this ‘Vase’ painting with oils, a timeless medium, exploring the boundary between the real and unreal. I imagine Hahn in his studio, intensely focused, maybe a little lost in the sauce, as he meticulously applies layer upon layer of paint. This vase seems to be melting right before our eyes; those thick, cascading folds, frozen in time, create a tension between stability and fluidity. The way the light catches the surface, it’s almost sculptural. What was he thinking as he built up those layers, capturing the essence of form and decay simultaneously? The white drippy paint at the bottom is a great painterly gesture. For me, it’s as if Hahn is reminding us that this is, after all, a painting, but one that opens to new possibilities. It's about the exchange of ideas, that ongoing conversation between artists across time. Hahn’s vase exists in a state of delightful ambiguity.
