This bracelet was crafted by an A'shiwi artist from Zuni, using silver and turquoise. It’s a grid! I am interested in the obsessive nature of craft, and, I imagine, for the artist who made this. It’s all about repetition, these small turquoise rectangles and circles held in place with silver. I can only imagine the care and the time it took to create it. It gives the impression of weaving—maybe the artist was thinking about textiles? I can picture the artist carefully placing each stone, feeling the weight and coolness of the turquoise in their hands. Each stone is slightly different, and there are rows and rows of them. There's such a dialogue happening across different art forms and different makers. We all see each other, we learn from each other, and we keep the conversation going through time. It’s like one big, ongoing jam session.
