Abstract and figurative sculpture. Black ceramic stoneware. 18cm High x 12cm Wide This is another piece in my collection of a series of sculptures focusing on the visual manifestation of mental health symptoms. My aim is create works that people can relate to and connect with emotionally. Mental illness is something I have a close personal connection to, and my goal is to communicate this through my work. Mental illness is not pretty, it is ugly. It is dark, overwhelming and consuming. The abstract nature of these figures reflects the fact that when you are in it, you don’t feel like yourself. You don’t feel human. You don’t recognise yourself. You need an open mind and bravery to claim and display one of these pieces. They are not for everyone. I feel the best art should provoke a strong emotion and polarise. Figure#4 The feeling of being frozen in a black lake of depression and dispair. You can’t think, you can’t breathe, you can’t move.
