Johannes Gutenberg (ca. 1393/1400–1486): Commemorative of the Erection in New York by Robert Hoe of a Statue of Gutenberg in 1889 1889

Scharff’s medal is cast in bronze and features a profile portrait of Gutenberg against a plain background. The inscription surrounding the portrait provides details of Gutenberg’s birth, “Born in Mainz, Germany betw. 1393-1400”. The medal's dimensions are 2 3/4 in. (70 mm.) in diameter. It is currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
