Editor: This photograph, "Untitled (boy in suit and hat posed standing at pulpit in synagogue)" by Martin Schweig, captures a young boy standing at a synagogue pulpit. It's a touching image, but what strikes me most is the solemnity of the boy juxtaposed with the grand setting. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I’m immediately drawn to the duality captured here. We see both the Israeli and American flags flanking the boy, which speaks volumes about identity and belonging. Perhaps Schweig is inviting us to consider the experience of being Jewish in America, straddling tradition and assimilation. What story do you think he might be trying to tell? Editor: That's insightful! I hadn't considered the flags in such a layered way. Curator: It’s a picture pregnant with possibilities, isn't it? It really makes you think.
